Los Angeles Refinery
Summer Youth Program

For over 30 years, the Los Angeles Refinery (LAR) has provided local high school students a paid 7-week, summer internship. This mentor-led program not only introduces students to a variety of jobs in the refining industry but also to working in a corporate environment. The Summer Youth Program aims to cultivate our community's youth by offering them opportunities to explore potential careers, establish real life work experience, and build a solid foundation for future employability in a competitive environment.

Eligibility

  • Juniors and Seniors, aged 17-19 years old and attending a participating school
  • Participating high schools: Avalon, Banning, Cabrillo, CAMS, Carson High (including Academies), Eagle Tree, Rancho Dominguez, VHTPA

This unique opportunity allows our community’s youth to:

  • Participate in team building exercises
  • Set and achieve goals
  • Develop confidence and self-esteem
  • Build a resume
  • Practice interviewing
  • Learn new skills
  • Learn how to budget
  • Develop leadership and communication skills
  • Give back to the community by volunteering
  • Find a career that fits their passion

 Additionally, they will receive:

  • Safety training from the Occupational Safety Councils of America (OSCA)
  • Life skills and career coaching
  • Toastmasters Speechcraft (Public speaking)

We will be providing information packets to your school in early 2025.
